We will not sit down and be quiet
TCA's DoubleTAKE Supported Arts Studio are proud to present their Advocacy through the Arts film and portrait installation: "We will not sit down and be quiet" - Now on tour around Ireland.

In June the DoubleTAKE tour stayed local, when the advocates were invited to screen their film "We Will Not Sit Down and Be Quiet" at the HSE EVE Forás Hub at Kilnamanagh/Tymon Primary Care Centre.
This screening, which was organised by Sandra Carass at HSE EVE Forás, was the centrepiece of a family day, to show the families of EVE Forás service users the amazing work done by their loved ones, in conjunction with DoubleTAKE Supported Arts Studio advocacy group.
There will be more stops on the DoubleTAKE Tour announced soon, so watch this space.
Prior to that, the fourth leg of the tour was a momentous occasion for the advocates, when they presented a screening of the film in Leinster House in May 2025.
This event, which took place in the AV room at Leinster House, was kindly facilitated by Cllr Alan Edge and Senator Victor Boyhan.
A wide array of politicians, members of the Oireachtas, and HSE officials were invited to attend the screening, and to join the Advocates for this wonderful occasion.
We could not be more proud of our DoubleTAKE Advocates, many of whom are in their senior years, for working tirelessly and finally getting the opportunity to bring their work to Government officials in the hope of creating meaningful change for themselves and all people who require care or support in their lives.
Before that, the third leg of the tour saw the Advocates heading to WALK advocacy group, who invited them to their head office for a screening of the film.
Margaret and Ronan presented to the audience on behalf of DoubleTAKE and there was a lively post-screening discussion.
The DoubleTAKE advocates have been invited back for another screening, this time in WALK's Green Kitchen, which they're very much looking forward to.
The advocates have also been invited to attend the Self Advocacy Conference in the IHREC Event Space on Wednesday 29th October. The 2025 "We Will Not Sit Down and Be Quiet" tour is really gathering momentum, and more events will be announced soon, so watch this space.
Also that month, the second leg of the tour took place in Rua Red Cafe during the month of April 2025.
During that time, the DoubleTAKE advocates' portraits and posters from the "We Will Not Sit Down and Be Quiet" project were displayed prominently on the wall at Rua Red Cafe!

What is "We will not sit down and be quiet?"
Originally launched in Rathfarnham's Pearse Museum in the Autumn of 2023, and then moved to Rua Red - South Dublin Art Centre, "We will not sit down and be quiet" is a short film and photographic portrait installation.
It serves as a call to action and invites us to examine our own unconscious bias towards those who live with a disability and those who require supports to thrive.
Our Advocates, many of whom have spent their entire lives living and working within Ireland’s disability care sector, are standing with power and speaking out.
The Advocates stand shoulder to shoulder to claim their human rights and respect and to request your solidarity. They do this not just for themselves but also for their peers, for those who are unable and for those who come in their stead.
We are all living beings and that fact alone unites us in being deserving of full human rights, so... don’t tell us to sit down and be quiet!
